On the 12th December 2021 the all-female ocean rowing crew 'Tideway Odyssey' begin their 3,000 mile journey across the Atlantic Ocean, as they compete in the premier event in ocean rowing, The Talisker Whisky Atlantic Challenge, while fundraising for London Youth Rowing.
The race calls people from all over the world, and from all walks of life, with around 30-40 crews participating each year. Together they all share the objective of successfully making the 3,000 mile crossing but more people have climbed Mount Everest than have rowed unsupported across the Atlantic ocean.
Saf Greenwood and Victoria Carroll, who make up the Tideway Odyssey crew, will join only a handful of other women ever to have attempted it with an all-female crew in the 12 years since the Talisker Challenge was created. With their launch date set for the December 12th, they predict they'll be at sea until January 31st 2022, "battling with sleep deprivation, salt sores, and physical extremes inflicted by the race. Left with just our own thoughts, an expanse of the ocean and the job of getting the boat safely to the other side!"
Believers in the power of sport to transform body and mind, passionate about the power of sport on young minds and is wants to show that no sport or activity is limited to any one gender, race or ability. They'll also be raising crucial funds The Fawcett Society too, who campaign for gender equality and women’s rights at work, at home and in public life.
