This Tuesday 21st September, LYR took part in 'City Giving Day' – a charitable initiative celebrating the impact and value of the City giving back to the community.
The event was part of the Lord Mayor's appeal and LYR, alongside our new corporate partners, Elston Consulting, hosted an activation which was kicked off by Elston’s CEO, Henry Combe, attempting to row 7,000m for £7,000 for – right at the entrance of the iconic Royal Exchange.
Like many major events, City Giving Day was forced to go fully virtual last year due to the lockdown. This year marked a return to the in-person fundraising event, in the heart of the City of London, with local businesses showcasing the work of their charity partners.
The Lord Mayor of London stopped by the event to take on the 100m challenge, and meet with LYR and Elston employees present on the day. The Lord Mayor wasn’t the only notable guest to take on the 100m challenge – he was joined by members of the City Police, who couldn’t resist the challenge.
Elston CEO Henry Combe, and LYR Director Andy Triggs-Hodge, spoke on the importance of the now formal corporate partnership between Elston and LYR.
“We are delighted to support London Youth Rowing, not only to broaden access to this great sport, but to support LYR’s ability to reach and support a large group of young people in a way that builds life-skills, determination and resilience, as well as fitness.” Henry said
“Today has been so much fun,” he continued, “and it’s been brilliant to get out into the centre of the City and get passers-by involved in the sport while raising awareness of LYR’s brilliant work – and hopefully raise some money!”
Andy Triggs-Hodge, the Director of Corporate Engagement at LYR said: “We are very proud to announce Elston Consulting as an official corporate supporter of LYR.
It is motivating for us to discover likeminded people who are passionate about making sure there are opportunities for all, and this partnership ensures that we are able to continue our mission to use rowing to positively affect young people’s lives in disadvantaged communities; helping them be more active, determined and ultimately discover success in their chosen path.”
