NJIRC 2015 – Frequently Asked Questions:


How do I get from the station to the event?

LYR will be providing a steady stream of buses to get you from Tottenham Hale station to the event free of charge. Look for the poster when leaving the station for the NJIRC16 bus stop. We will provide a shuttle bus timetable closer to the event.


Is there parking for coaches / buses?

There is parking in the adjacent car park. There are no reservations. Parking is on a first come first served basis.


Do I have to have any prior rowing experience?

There is no need to have any prior rowing experience however it might be a bit daunting to turn up on the day having never sat on a rowing machine.


How long before your race do you have to check in?

Closer to the day we will publish a running order of events. We suggest you allow plenty of time before your event to register as we may be running ahead of schedule on the day


What time does it start? Finish?

Registration is open from 9am. The first race is due to begin at 10 am. Please check nearer the date for a race schedule. This will give a better idea of when we will finish.


Is there an opportunity to warm up before the race?

There is a massive park surrounding the Lea Valley Athletics Stadium for warming up.


Are there refreshments?

There will be several reasonably priced vendors to purchase snacks from. It is advisable to bring your own refreshments too.


Can I register myself or do I have to register through my school or club?

You can register as an individual if your school/club is not coming!


What should I wear?

Sports Wear! Trainers, shorts and T shirt. The arena gets quite hot so wearing layers is a good idea. You don’t need to wear a onesie to be good at this sport! Remember to tuck your T-shirt in if it is long as it could slow you down in the race if it gets caught!

How do I make changes to the team sheet? And how late can I do it?

You will be given the opportunity to make changes to your entry from the 23rd Feb – 4th of March. On the day of the event you can change only 2 team members so please ensure that all the names and categories are correct.


What should I bring?

Bring a change of clothes, deodorant, your lunch, a drink (ideally in a refillable bottle) some money for snacks, ice cream etc…mobile and/or camera, lots of energy, school banner/ mascot, friendship.


Can you have a music player device on the Race floor?

Yes you can as long as it does not disturb any of the other competitors


Is there a charge to spectate?

No, there is no charge for spectators!


How does the relay work?

There are two relay events:


For both races you may change however many times you wish but each rower in the team must row at least once.


Once entries close at the end of February you will be given the opportunity to enter relay teams. Places are limited for each event and will be run on a first come first served basis

Are there different categories for different types of disabilities?

No – we only run one race for students with special needs, the special invitational event.


Are all the machines the same and can I set the resistance?

The machines are all Concept 2 machines with a damper leaver to set resistance. You may set the resistance to whatever level you prefer before you race but you cannot change it while you are racing.


What happens if I miss my race?

Don’t worry you can still log your race time at the Bull Pen. You won’t be eligible to win a medal but you will gain the bragging rights!


What happens if I lose my wristband?

We are able to reissue you with a new number but this does complicate things and increases the risk of your results being mixed up so put the wristband on and keep it on!


How do the medal ceremonies work?

After every race category there will be a medal ceremony with Bronze, Silver & Gold medals awarded to winners by VIP guests


Can I have a shower?

Are there changing facilities? There are large toilets suitable for changing in. Unfortunately there are no showers available on site.


Where can I find the results?

Provisional results will be available on the day at the venue in a clearly marked area. Final results will be posted on our webpage the week after the event.


Do I have to stay the whole day?

You don’t have to stay all day but we have arranged for all sorts of fun activities to keep everyone engaged throughout the day. We hope you can stay and take part in some of these. There will be a list of this year’s activities on our web site nearer the time.


How do I prevent unwanted photos being taken?

When you register please ask our staff for a red Lanyard for each child not wanting to have their photo taken. This will subtly identify them

Is first aid provided?

St John’s Ambulance will be present throughout the day near to the race floor.
