Tami

Tami joined The Green School for Boys as a Year 7 student in Sept 2019. Tami has neurological and physical disabilities, which mean that he uses a wheelchair and a walking frame, he also has a visual impairment. Tami made the decision to row on the ergo from his chair, which means he is predominantly using his upper body.

Jonah

Jonah first interacted with LYR in his previous school through our Active Row programme. After moving to an Alternative Provision, Jonah was delighted to meet us again when we began last year at his new school, Cavendish, through our Alternative Provision programme. I remember coming into the school for the first time in my LYR kit, and Jonah exclaimed “I know you guys!” when he came into the room.

What we do at LYR

LYR runs and supports a number of youth programmes.

Our flagship programme Active Row focuses on engaging young people who are less likely to participate in physical activity such as those from diverse and disadvantaged backgrounds, girls and individuals with special educational needs or a disability. Active Row works within over 100 state secondary schools across London, Yorkshire, Nottingham, Kent and Bristol.

Our Life Skills programme is integrated with Active Row, enabling young people to build 5 key skills for life alongside getting active. LYR uses the skills builder framework to track the development of young people’s ability to stay positive, work in a team, aim high, problem solve and show leadership.

These are two of our many programmes that we run and support at LYR, all of which focus on delivering our vision of breaking down barriers and building diversity, inclusivity and equality.
